St Katharine Docks

Website design, content management system, RSS technology

Home to some of London's most prestigious yachts, St Katharine Docks oozes with style and sophistication. This is complimented by a fine selection of restaurants and boutique shops, appealing to the hearts of keen boatsmen and fine diners a plenty. The marina is situated beside by one of the capitals most recognisable attractions; Tower Bridge, and is accessible by great transport links surrounding it.

The old website failed to communicate the attractiveness and tranquillity of the marina and thus was a hindrance to their brand positioning. The creative brief was to emulate the wonders of St Katharine Docks online, and the best way we felt to portray this was through the use of strong imagery in their new web design. On the homepage the user is met with a full screen flash banner of four key images showcasing the Docks and surrounding area. From a commercial objective the Docks wanted to encourage new business investment in the area and new tourists to the area. To meet this requirement Wickedweb delivered an interactive flash map detailing what the Docks have to offer.

The new look website for St Katharine Docks, powered by Wickedweb's CMS system, now sets it apart from its key competitors online. It benefits from a suite of modules including News and Photo Gallery. Bespoke modules have been built to meet the specific requirement of the Docks. This includes an RSS technology which pulls through the Met Office shipping forecast for the Thames and Dover regions onto the Marina pages specifically. For the remainder of the site an RSS feed pulls the London weather data from Google, and a bespoke built Wickedweb feed connected to the CMS details the daily locking times.

The new website truly is a cut above its online market, and has become the Aston Martin of the London Marina's. With value added functionality, contemporary design, and an intuitive, powerful content management system, the site will continue to deliver return on investment.
